The LomoMod No.1 is a medium format camera. It was introduced by Lomography on 21 October 2019. Like the constructor, it is a kit for one camera. This time the parts for the camera are not made of plastic but of cardboard. The different coloured parts are assembled without any glue.
The camera comes with a fixed lens. The focus of the lens cannot be changed. The minimum distance to the subject is 2.5 m. With an adapter, shots up to 1.5 meters are also possible.
The great speciality of this lens is the possibility to fill in liquids. The idea for Suttons's Liquid Filled Lens came from the Victorian photographer Thomas Sutton. With a syringe liquids can be filled in between the film and the lens. By using food colouring or fruit juices, different effects can be created.
The maximum aperture is f/11, smaller apertures are possible with a Waterhouse plug-in aperture system. The exposure is not measured by the camera. The choice of exposure time is only 1/100 second and the variable bulb mode. An external flash can be used via the PC flash socket.
The LomoMod No.1 comes with a thread for a tripod. It is also possible to use a cable release. The camera is mechanical and needs no power to take pictures.
Included in the set are 11 cardboard plates with the camera parts, 1 cardboard plate with the plug-in apertures, the lens, a shutter and aperture module, a medium format coil, a tripod connection, a hose, a syringe, a valve, colored stickers, a photo book and the manual.
Films for the LomoMod No.1
Exposure is done with LomoMod No.1 medium format films. Fresh film material for this film type is still being produced. Possible films for the LomoMod No.1 are the Kodak Portra 400* for color photos and the Ilford XP2 Super* for b/w photos.
With the LomoMod No.1 you have to think square. It takes pictures in 6x6 format. With this format, you have to change the film already after twelve releases. The photographer has to wind the film on manually.
