The La Sardina - Capri Grotta Azzura is a special edition of the La Sardina from Lomography. It was introduced on May 3, 2012 as part of the La Sardina Beach Edition. The price at launch was set by Lomography at 99 euros. The design of the camera is made of colorful fabric and is unique to each camera.
The name comes from the Italian island made of calcareous rock and an elevation in the northwest of the island. Grotta Azzurra means blue cave in English. The entrance is a rocky hole in the sea just 1.5 meters high. The cave is 52 meters long and 30 meters wide, where the water shimmers in a peculiar blue hue.
The edition has the same features as the other La Sardinas. The plastic lens has an 89° angle of view. The aperture cannot be changed, it is fixed at f/8.
The included flash provides enough light at the next beach party. If you use the bulb mode, you will get really nice party pictures.
The edition comes with the camera, the flash, a poster, a book with photos ("Seeing the world through a sardine cam"), color filters for the flash.
Films for the La Sardina - Capri Grotta Azzura
Cartridges with 35mm film are exposed in the La Sardina - Capri Grotta Azzura. 35mm film is still made by various producers. The use of Kodak Ultramax 400* is recommended for color images with this camera, while Kodak TRI-X 400* is recommended for B&W photos. Both films can be used for a wide range of shooting areas. They are consistently rated well in test reports.
The C-41 development process is a commonly used method for developing color films. C-41 films are offered by most photo labs. Some major drugstore brands in Germany also offer color film development.
The exposure area of the Lomography camera is 24 mm x 36 mm. Per film (135-36), 36 exposures are thus usually possible.
