The Kodak Star Zoom 70 is a compact camera from the 90s. The model was built in the Philippines for Eastman Kodak. It is an easy to use camera for the 35mm format. In addition to the normal one, the Kodak Star Zoom 70 QD (Quartz Date) was offered. This model offered the additional possibility to imprint the shooting time into the pictures.

The lens of the 35mm camera is fixed. The focal length of the zoom lens is specified as 35 mm to 70 mm. It can be zoomed in five steps. There is no need to focus manually with the 35mm camera, as it is equipped with an autofocus system. The closer it gets to the telephoto end, the smaller the maximum aperture.

The camera is equipped with a built-in light meter. It was designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 100 to ISO 1000. The Kodak Star Zoom 70 reads the ISO value via the DX code on the cartridge. The 35mm photo camera has automatic exposure control and sets aperture and exposure time automatically. It is not possible to influence the exposure.

Sufficient light is provided by the built-in flash, which fires automatically when needed. The flash can also be focussed or switched off. The 35mm camera has a self-timer and a tripod socket. The camera is powered by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). A small display on the top of the plastic case provides information about mode, number of pictures and the battery status, among other things.

Films for the Kodak Star Zoom 70

The camera is a film camera that needs films to take pictures. It is loaded with 35mm film. Films of this format are still easily obtained today and are still developed. The exposure area of the camera has a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. Thus, 36 pictures usually fit on a roll of film. The film is automatically rewound after each exposure and returned to the cartridge at the end of the roll. Under no circumstances should the camera be opened before rewinding. Rewinding of the film can also be forced with a small button.

Possible films for the Kodak Star Zoom 70 are the Kodak Gold 200* for color images and the Ilford Delta 400* for black and white images. Both films come with DX encoding on the cartridge and are suitable for solid everyday or on-the-go shooting. Of course, there are a variety of other 35mm films available for the camera.
