  • Type of Film 35mm

  • Focus Automatic

The Kodak Star AF is a point-and-shoot camera. It was introduced by Kodak in the 1990s. The model was manufactured in a factory in China. The housing is made of plastic and black. The camera was aimed at beginners and accordingly it has a simple design, so you don't need a manual to take pictures.

The 35mm photo camera comes with a fixed lens. The lens is focused by a built-in autofocus system. The focal length on this model is probably in the range of 30 to 35 mm. This model does not have a zoom.

The Kodak Star AF has an automatic exposure system. The photographer cannot choose the aperture and exposure time, these values are set automatically by the light meter. The sensitivity of the film material is read via the coding on the cartridge.

A flash provides sufficient illumination in low light conditions. This has a function for preventing red eyes from the subjects. Power is supplied by 2x AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Kodak Star AF

The Kodak Star AF takes its pictures on 35mm film, according to the instructions. These films are still being made and can be specified by almost any developing dealer. An option for color images is the Kodak Gold 200* and the Ilford HP5* for black and white photos. Both films are well suited for a wide range of applications. This is also attested to them in test reports. The only important thing when buying is that the film has DX encoding, otherwise the camera cannot set the correct sensitivity.

The color film is developed using the C-41 process. The C-41 process is done by most professional photo labs. In Germany, most drugstore chains offer color film development. Black and white film must be processed in a true black and white developer and cannot be used in the C-41 development process.

The camera exposes an area of 24 mm x 36 mm. This means that at least 36 photos fit on a normal roll of 35 mm film. The film is automatically advanced by a motor. Rewinding into the cartridge is also motorized. A counter on the top shows the number of pictures taken.

You can only find the camera used today. Prices for the Kodak Star AF vary depending on its condition. As a rule, you should not spend more than a few euros for this type of camera.
