The Exakta F-100 is a cheap 35 mm camera for beginners and occasional users. It was probably built in Asia and probably dates from the 1990s. Similar models were produced in Thailand, China and Hong Kong.
Camera features
Equipped with a 35mm fixed lens, the exact focal length of which is unknown but is believed to be between 28mm and 35mm, this camera allows for easy handling. There is no autofocus on this model, instead it uses a focus-free system with a fixed focus setting. The lens is protected from possible damage and contamination by a sliding door.
Despite the lack of a special "red-eye reduction" mode, a tripod mount and a self-timer, the device scores with its built-in flash and the ability to attach a wrist strap.
The camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) to operate, although using rechargeable batteries is an advantageous alternative.
Film options for the Exakta F-100
According to the user manual, the Exakta F-100 is designed to use 35mm film. These films are still available from various manufacturers and can be developed.
Films such as the Kodak Gold 200* for color photography or the Ilford Delta 400* for monochrome images are recommended for high-quality recordings with this compact camera. In addition, products from Lomography, Fujifilm, Rollei, Adox and Foma are also good choices.
Most photo labs offer the development of these films. Negative prints can be ordered directly and there is the option of digitizing the negatives to use them as digital files.
The film transport is handled manually after each exposure via a thumbwheel on the back. A counter on the top shows the number of shots already taken, while a window on the back shows the current film.
When the film ends, it is turned back into the cartridge using a crank. Only then should the camera be opened to remove the film for development. It is important that the camera is not opened when the film is not rewound to prevent exposure to light and damage to the film.
