Chinon CX

The Chinon CX is an SLR camera. It was introduced by Chinon in the 70s and built in Japan. It is the successor of the Chinon CM. The SLR was sold as Argus CR-2, GAF L-CX and as Revueflex 2000 CL and Revueflex 3000 SL.

The lenses of the Chinon CX are interchangeable. Lenses for the M42 thread can be used. The M42 thread is a standardized, manufacturer-independent lens mount for interchangeable lenses. The lens thread was developed by Carl Zeiss in Jena in 1938. Zeiss, KMZ, Pentacon and Pentax were among the major manufacturers of M42 lenses. The lens is focused by hand.

The Chinon CX has a built-in light meter. The SLR determines the correct exposure when metering through the lens (TTL). The exposure time and aperture can be freely selected. For long exposures, there is a Bulb mode. In this mode, the film is exposed as long as the shutter button is pressed.

An external flash unit can be connected to the PC flash socket. The Chinon CX also has a built-in self-timer. It also comes with a port for a cable release and tripod.

Films for the Chinon CX

The Chinon CX has been built for the 35mm format. There is still a good selection of material for color and black and white images for this film format. The exposure area of the 35mm camera is 24mm x 36mm.

Possible films for the Chinon CX are the Agfaphoto Vista 400* for color photos and the AgfaPhoto APX 100* for B&W photos.

The color film is developed using the C-41 process. This development process is offered by most laboratories. The black and white film must be processed in the appropriate photochemistry for this type of film.

The 35mm camera can only be found used. The value of a used Chinon CX is mainly measured by its condition and functionality.
