The lenses of the Carena micro RSD are interchangeable. It comes with an M42 thread. A lot of screw lenses are available for the M42 lens mount. The first M42 lens was invented by Zeiss. Zeiss, KMZ, Pentacon and Pentax were among the major manufacturers of M42 lenses. The SLR does not have an autofocus system. Therefore, you have to focus by hand.
For taking pictures, the Carena micro RSD has a light meter. It can be used to set the exposure for filming with a sensitivity of ISO 25 to ISO 1600. As with most SLR cameras, the exposure is measured through the lens. The exposure time can be set manually. The aperture is also freely selectable. The aperture values that can be selected depend on the lens. The focal plane shutter supports exposure times up to 1/1000 second.
The photo camera comes with a Bulb mode. Here, the shutter is open for a variable time. An external flash can be connected to the PC flash socket. A tripod can be connected to a thread on the bottom of the camera. A cable release can also be used with the camera. Additionally, the self-timer can be used for taking pictures.
According to the user manual, the dimensions of the camera housing are 13.2 x 8.9 x 5 cm. It weighs 450 grams. This value refers only to the housing without film inserted.
Films for the Carena micro RSD
According to the instructions, the Carena micro RSD requires 35mm film. 35mm films are still manufactured today. They can be developed in most laboratories. A good choice for color and black and white images is the Agfaphoto Vista 400* and the AgfaPhoto APX 400*. 36 images fit on one roll of film.
