The Amica Eyelux is a rangefinder camera. It was distributed by Amica International Corp in the 60s. The model was built in Japan by the company Taron. They offered a similar model of the 35mm camera under the name "Taron Auto EE".
The lens of the Amica Eyelux is not changeable. 45 mm is the focal length of the lens. The largest aperture available at the camera is f/1.8. There is no autofocus with the 35mm camera. You have to focus on the subject by hand. With the help of the rangefinder, it is no longer necessary to guess the distance to the subject. The minimum distance needed to the subject is 90 cm.
For metering exposure, the Amica Eyelux an exposure meter. It was designed for work with films with a ISO of 10 to 400. The shutter speed and aperture can be freely selected.
The camera comes with a bulb mode. With the Bulb setting, it stays open as long as the photographer holds the shutter button down. An external flash unit can be connected to the PC flash socket. The Amica Eyelux has a thread for a tripod and a connection for a cable release. In addition, there is a self-timer.
At a weight of 750 grams the size of the Amica Eyelux is 13,5 x 9,2 x 7,5 cm. The camera needs one PX625 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Amica Eyelux
The Amica Eyelux needs photo film for taking pictures. Or more precisely 35mm film. For this film format, there is still a good selection of material for color and black and white images. A great film choice for color photos is the Kodak Portra 160* and for black and white pictures the Ilford Delta 100*.
