FED, or Felix Dzerzhinsky Factory, was a Soviet-era camera manufacturer established in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv in the 1930s. The company was named after Felix Dzerzhinsky, the founder of the Soviet secret police, and initially focused on manufacturing cameras for the military. However, FED later began manufacturing a line of popular rangefinder cameras based on the Leica design, known for their durability and reliability. FED cameras were widely used in the Soviet Union and were also exported to other countries.
Arsenal or Kiev Arsenal Factory was a Soviet-era camera factory established in the city of Kiev in the 1920s. The company manufactured a wide range of cameras, which included rangefinders, SLRs, and medium format cameras. An example is the Kiev series for medium format. These models are modular and “oriented” heavily on the Hasselblad cameras of the period.
