The Olympus OM-707 is an SLR camera from the Japanese photo giant. The camera is characterized by its integrated autofocus module. Visually, it clearly stands out from the series of Olympus OM cameras. It was introduced by Olympus in 1986.
In some markets, the model was also sold under the name Olympus OM-77 AF.
The autofocus works via a built-in motor in the camera body. The camera uses a shaft to set the correct focus on the lens. The OM-707 has a modified version of the OM bayonet that enables this function. There are a total of eight AF lenses, four fixed focal length and four zoom lenses. Only with these lenses is it possible to use the autofocus function.
Almost all “normal” lenses for the OM system can be used with the OM-707, but these must be focused manually. The PF lenses for the OM-101 PF cannot be used with this model.
There is a light meter built into the camera. There are two automatic exposure modes and a manual mode to choose from. The program automatic mode sets aperture and exposure time automatically. In aperture priority or aperture priority mode, the user selects the desired aperture and the camera selects what it considers to be the correct exposure time. All film with a sensitivity between ISO 25 and ISO 3200 can be used in the camera. The sensitivity of the film can be set automatically by the camera through the DX coding of the film cartridge.
A Bulb mode is available for shooting at night. In Bulb setting, the remains open as long as the photographer holds the shutter button down. Hot-shoe flashes can be used with the Olympus OM-707. There is also a PC flash socket.
The Olympus OM-707 has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod. The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 14.6 x 8.9 x 5.2 cm. The black chunky plastic body weighs 635 grams. Power is supplied by four AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
