The Vivitar XC-2 is a reflex camera. It was sold by Vivitar in the 70s. However, it was produced by Cosina. The Japanese company offered the 35 mm camera itself as a “Cosina CSR”.
The lenses of the Vivitar XC-2 can be easily interchanged. Lenses with a M42 lens mount can be used. The M42 thread was previously very common, so there are many lenses for this lens mount. The M42 lens mount was developed as a successor to the M39 thread mount. Amongst others, M42 lens producers are Pentax, Pentacon, Zeiss and KMZ (Zenit). The lens is focused manually. The Vivitar XC-2 does not have an autofocus system.
Photography is made easier by the built-in exposure meter. It can be used for films in an ISO range of 25 to 3200. The exposure is measured through the lens of the 35mm camera (TTL). An external strobe or a flash unit can be connected to the Hot Shoe.
Films for the Vivitar XC-2
The Vivitar XC-2 was built for the 35mm format. 35mm films are still easy to get today and are developed by most photo laboratories. Beautiful 35mm films for color or black-and-white shots are the Kodak Gold 200* and the Kodak T-Max 400*.
The color film is a negative film and is processed in the C-41 development process. The C-41 process is offered by almost every photo lab.
For the next frame of the film the camera has to be winded manually.
The Vivitar XC-2 has a thread for a tripod and cable release. It also has a self-timer. At a weight of 540 g the size of the camera body is 13,65 x 8,32 x 5,1 cm. The power supply comes from two S-76 1.5V batteries.
