The Rollei R3 is a black and white film. The superpanchromatic film is the successor of the Maco Cube 400c. The emulsion cast on a polyester-based carrier for R3, the two film is identical. The basis for the black and white film is the ORWO TC27, a film for traffic monitoring with an extended red range.
To introduce it, it was advertised with big words. The black-and-white film, with its nominal sensitivity of ISO 400/27°, is supposed to be able to be exposed between ISO 25 and ISO 6400. This is supposed to be possible thanks to several light-sensitive emulsions with silver halides of different sizes. It must be developed in a suitable black-and-white developer. However, it can also be converted to black-and-white slides in reverse development.
Production of the Rollei R3 was discontinued. Before that, it was available as 35mm film and for medium and large format cameras.
It was manufactured in Germany, and some of the packaging was done in the EU. Nevertheless, it bore the imprint “Made in Germany”.
