The Revue 400 S is a 35mm camera distributed by Foto-Quelle. It was offered by the German mail order company in the 1970s in Germany under the house brand “Revue”.

It was probably manufactured by Cosina. The Revue 400 S is almost identical to the Vivitar 35EE.

The Revue 400 S is a slimmed down version of the Revue 400 SE, its little sister, so to speak. It comes with a “Revuenon 38 mm f/2.8” lens, the 400 SE has a 40 mm f1.7 lens. Also, there is no time preset, the light meter automatically sets the exposure itself. Film speeds from ISO 25 to ISO 400 are supported.

For this, the Revue 400 S also has a built-in rangefinder that helps to manually set the correct distance to the subject. The focus range starts at one meter and goes to infinity.

In terms of batteries, the camera actually requires PX 625 1.35V mercury coin cells. Since these are no longer allowed to be manufactured in the EU, you can reach for hearing aid batteries with a comparable voltage, for example.

35mm films are needed. These are still easy to get (eBay / Amazon*) and are not too expensive. The development of the films is also still easily possible today.

For creating color images with the camera, the Fujifilm Superia 400* is a good choice. For black-and-white pictures, on the other hand, the Kodak T-Max 400* is popular. Both films achieve solid results in test reports and convince with their quality. However, there is also a wide selection of other films that are suitable for this camera.

There are various options for developing the films. While some photographers do the development at home, many photo labs also offer professional development. There is the option to convert the negatives directly into prints or to digitize them.
