Niwalker N50S

The Niwalker N50S is a compact flashlight specifically designed for high range with handy dimensions. Thanks to its modular housing, it can be flexibly operated with two different battery sizes and adapted to the respective application. We take a closer look at the device.

Technical Data and Equipment

The Niwalker N50S features a deep, smooth reflector that strongly focuses the light of the built-in LED, enabling a beam distance of up to one kilometer according to the manufacturer. The light output is specified at up to 1800 lumens, which is a remarkable value for a flashlight of this size.

In addition to the main LED, the housing has cooling fins in the front area, which serve to dissipate heat during prolonged use at higher brightness levels.

A central feature of the lamp is its modular power supply. In its standard state, the model is powered by a compact 18350 lithium-ion battery, keeping the overall length short and the weight at about 120 to 130 grams.

For longer use, a suitable extension tube is included, allowing the use of a higher-capacity 18650 battery with 3500 mAh. In this extended configuration, the total weight increases to about 180 grams, which offers a more comfortable grip for many users.

The housing is made of a robust aluminum alloy with a matte blue anodization and cleanly cut threads. There is also a green variant.

An integrated USB-C charging port is located directly on the lamp head and is protected from dust and splashes by a flexible rubber cover. Clean O-rings at the thread transitions ensure reliable protection against moisture, and an additional spare sealing ring is included in the delivery. A magnet is also integrated into the tail cap, allowing attachment to metallic surfaces.

In Practice

In daily use, the Niwalker N50S impresses with simple and logical menu navigation. All functions are controlled via a single side switch, which also integrates a small LED to indicate the current battery status.

By simply pressing, you cycle through the various basic levels, ranging from a very low brightness for close range to medium and high light levels. A quick double-click activates the turbo mode, while a triple-click starts the strobe for emergency or signaling purposes.

The beam profile of the Niwalker N50S is strongly focused, which is typical for so-called thrower flashlights. The central light cone is tightly bundled and easily reaches distant objects, while the surrounding light is scattered relatively weakly.

For illuminating wide open areas, forest paths, or roads in the dark, this characteristic is very practical, as targets at great distances remain clearly visible. However, for work in the immediate vicinity or reading indoors, this strongly focused spot may be perceived as too concentrated.

The handling strongly depends on the chosen housing configuration. The short version with the 18350 battery fits effortlessly into jacket pockets but offers less surface area for users with larger hands. With the extension tube and the 18650 battery, the lamp sits noticeably more stable in the hand and provides significantly longer endurance, but requires a bit more storage space.

The magnet in the tail cap proves practical for craft activities, allowing the lamp to be attached to car bodies or metal supports, although the increased weight of the long version somewhat stresses the holding force on uneven surfaces.

A minor drawback concerns heat development at the highest brightness level. In turbo mode, the lamp head heats up noticeably after a short time, which is unavoidable by design in such compact lamps with high power.

The electronics reduce the brightness after a certain time to protect the components from overheating. Additionally, the rubber cover of the USB-C port requires careful closing to reliably keep out dirt and moisture during outdoor use.
