The Pentaflex SL is a 35 mm camera. It belongs to the group of SLR cameras and was built in the GDR. The camera was built at the end of the 60s. In West Germany the camera was sold as “Porst Reflex FX3” for around 200 DM.

Pentaflex SL lenses are interchangeable. For this purpose, an M42 thread was used. There is a wide range of interchangeable lenses for the M42 lens mount. The Pentaflex SL does not have an autofocus and therefore requires manual focus.

The Pentaflex SL has no built-in exposure meter. The aperture and exposure time can be freely selected. Exposure times range from 1/500 second to 1/30 second.

The Pentaflex SL has a bulb mode. An external flash unit can be used via the PC flash socket.

Films for the Pentaflex SL

The Pentaflex SL needs photo film for taking pictures. Or more precisely 35mm film. 35mm films are still produced today and are quite easy to get. For black-and-white 35mm shots, the Ilford FP4 Plus* a good choice. For color images you can use the Kodak Gold 200*.

The Pentaflex SL can be connected to a cable release or tripod by means of the corresponding threads. The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 15 x 10 x 8 cm. The weight of the Pentaflex SL is 710 g. The camera is mechanical and requires no power to take pictures.

Today you can buy the Pentaflex SL only in used condition. The condition and, if available, accessories determine the price of a used copy.
