The Olympus OM-20 is an SLR camera. It was built by Olympus from 1983 to 1987. It is the successor of the Olympus OM-10 and was mainly aimed at amateur photographers. On the North American market, the camera was sold under the name Olympus OM-G. Except for the engraving of the name, this model is identical to the OM-20.

The biggest innovation on this model was the addition of manual mode. Furthermore, a brighter focusing screen was installed and the ab readability of the shutter speed in the search was improved.

The lens of the Olympus OM-20 is interchangeable. Lenses with an Olympus OM bayonet can be used with the camera. A variety of lenses with different focal lengths from Olympus can be used. The lens is focused manually and does not have an autofocus.

The Olympus OM-20 is equipped with a built-in light meter. It can be used to measure the exposure for films with a sensitivity of ISO 25 to ISO 1600. The metering of the exposure takes place through the lens on the 35mm SLR (TTL).

The Olympus OM-20 has an automatic exposure mode, more precisely aperture priority. In this mode, which is also called aperture priority, the photographer selects the aperture and the camera selects the exposure time corresponding to the metering. Exposure can be influenced by exposure compensation. Exposure time and aperture can also be selected manually.

The Olympus OM-20 has a Bulb mode, for example for long exposures. In this mode, the shutter is opened as long as the shutter release button is pressed. An external flash can be connected to the hot shoe. Additionally, there is a PC flash socket.

If you want, you can have the Olympus OM-20 triggered by the built-in self-timer or by a cable release. The possibility to use a tripod provides the necessary stability. The power supply of the 35mm camera is provided by two LR44 / SR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Olympus OM-20

The Olympus OM-20 is a 35mm camera and requires 35mm film. 35mm film is still readily available today and is developed by most photo labs. The Agfaphoto Vista 400* is a possible color film for the model. Black and white images are possible with the AgfaPhoto APX 400*.

The color film is designed for development in the C-41 process. This development process is performed by all photo labs that offer development of 35mm film. Development of 35mm color film is possible, for example, at most drugstore chains in Germany.
