The Nikon Zoom 700VR is a snapshot camera. It was introduced in 1994 by the Japanese camera manufacturer. At that time, the model could captivate with a novelty, an optical stabilization of the lens. The vibration reduction was supposed to enable blur-free pictures. The VR in the name stands for Vibration Reduction. In some markets the model was also sold under the name “Nikon Zoom Touch 105 VR”.
The 35mm camera comes with a fixed zoom lens. 38 mm to 105 mm is the zoom range of the lens. It is built up of twelve lens elements in ten groups. The largest aperture of the camera is f/4 or f/7.8. You don’t have to focus manually with the Nikon Zoom 700VR. The camera has an autofocus. The closest focusing distance of this lens is 75 cm.
The point and shoot camera has a built-in light meter. It can be used with films from ISO 50 to ISO 3200. The film speed is determined by the DX code. Aperture and exposure time are automatically set by the Nikon Zoom 700VR.
A flash is built-in for low light or low light images. The flash range is specified as 11 meters. The camera has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod.
The camera weighs 420 grams. The dimensions are 13.9 x 7.6 x 7.1 cm. Power is supplied by two CR 123A batteries (eBay / Amazon*). The batteries are sufficient for about 18 rolls of film.
Films for the Nikon Zoom 700VR
In the Nikon Zoom 700VR 35mm films are exposed. 35mm films are still being produced and are developed without problems in most photo labs. For black and white images you can use Ilford Delta 400*. For colour images the Fujifilm Superia 400* is a possibility.
The development process for colour film is the C-41 process. This development process is carried out by all photo labs that offer development of 35mm film.
The negatives of the 35 mm camera have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. In panorama mode they are 13 x 36 mm. A normal film (135-36) can therefore hold about 36 pictures in both modes. The films are automatically transported and also rewound.
Nikon Zoom 700VR QD
A variant of the camera was sold under this name. This Quartz Date model can imprint the recording time and date in the image. In addition, the estimated distance to the subject can be imprinted. Of course there was also the Zoom Touch 105 VR QD.
