Nikon TW2D

The Nikon TW2D is a snapshot camera. The 35 mm camera is a Nikon product from the 1980s. It is a version of the Nikon TW2 with a data back.

The lens: your gateway to creative framing

The heart of the Nikon TW2D is its dual lens system. At its heart is a 35mm f/3.5 wide-angle lens, perfect for wide landscapes, group shots or everyday scenes with a natural perspective.

However, with a simple push of a button, the camera transforms into a 70mm telephoto lens with f/6.8. This longer focal length allows you to zoom in on subjects, isolate them for beautiful portraits or bring distant details closer.

And if you need to get really close, the built-in macro filter comes into play. This makes the TW2D ideal for capturing tiny details of flowers, insects or other intricate subjects.

Automation for simplicity and focus

Thanks to the Nikon TW2D’s autofocus system, photography is no longer guesswork. It reliably focuses on your subject from a distance of 0.69 meters up to infinity. This means sharp results without having to struggle with manual focusing.

What’s more, the focus lock function is a photographer’s best friend. Simply press the shutter button halfway to lock focus on your chosen subject, then recompose and take the shot.

Exposure made easy

Exposure is another area where the TW2D shines with its simplicity. It has a program automatic mode, where the camera intelligently determines the perfect shutter speed and aperture settings to deliver a well-exposed image.

The automatic DX film speed setting function provides additional convenience. Simply insert a can of film and the camera reads the DX code to automatically set the correct film speed – another setting you don’t have to worry about.

The viewfinder: your window to the image

Thanks to the Nikon TW2D’s optical viewfinder, image composition is effortless. A bright frame in the viewfinder shows you exactly what will be included in your photo. The highlight: the magnification of the viewfinder adjusts automatically when you switch between the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, so you always have an accurate preview of your image.

Effortless handling of the film

The Nikon is designed for the 35mm format. For this film format, there is still a good selection of material for color and black and white images. For color images, for example, there is the Kodak Ultramax 400*. One option for black and white images is the Ilford XP2 Super. There are many other companies that also offer films for this format.

The TW2D takes care of the film transport for you. Inserting the film, fast-forwarding after each shot and rewinding when the film is finished are completely automatic. This means you can concentrate fully on taking pictures without having to fiddle with the mechanics of the film.

Additional functions for an even better experience

The Nikon TW2D has a few more practical functions. The self-timer is your ally for group shots or when you want to count yourself in the picture. Set the 10-second delay and strike a pose! The camera even has a double exposure function for those moments when you really want to get creative and put two images on a single film frame.

The built-in flash pops up automatically when the camera detects low light, so you can take pictures even when the sun goes down. A handy flash ready indicator on the back of the camera shows that the flash is charged and ready to provide additional illumination.

A small LCD display shows information including the frame counter, battery status, self-timer indicator and current flash mode settings. The camera is powered by an easy-to-find 6V lithium battery (eBay / Amazon*), giving you enough power for a full day of shooting.

Finally, the TW2D has a data back where you can date, time or year/month/day your photos for convenient storage. It also has a built-in 24-hour clock that can be called up with a specific key combination. The clock requires a CR2025 battery (eBay / Amazon*).
