The Nikon N50, an SLR camera from Nikon, was introduced in the 1990s and was aimed at beginners in photography. It is the predecessor of the Nikon N60 and was sold on the North American market. In other markets it was available as the Nikon F50.
This 35 mm camera allows the change of lenses and is equipped with a Nikon F bayonet. It was often seen with the AF Zoom-Nikkor 35-80 mm f/4-f/5.6 D lens. The Nikon F bayonet was introduced more than 60 years ago and has been continuously developed ever since. In addition to Nikon, Tokina, Tamron, Sigma and Samyang also offer compatible lenses, although not all of them are compatible with the old film cameras. The Nikon N50 has autofocus.
The 35mm camera is equipped with an exposure meter that is designed for films from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The camera recognises the correct sensitivity of the film via the DX code. The exposure settings are made automatically, but the exposure time can be set manually and the aperture can also be freely selected.
In addition, the camera has a built-in flash with a range of up to 13 metres at ISO 100 and an external flash unit can be used via the hot shoe connection. The Nikon N50 has a self-timer and a thread for a tripod.
According to the instructions, the camera measures 14.9 x 9.6 x 7 cm and weighs 580 grams. It is powered by a 2CR5 battery.
Films for the Nikon N50
The Nikon N50 requires 35mm format film. Various manufacturers produce 35mm films, including the Kodak Portra 400* for colour images and the Ilford XP2 Super* for black and white photos. The colour film is processed using the standardised C-41 development process, which is offered by most development labs.
The exposure area of the 35mm camera is 24 mm x 36 mm, and a standard 35mm film holds about 36 photos. The film transport is automatic, so that the photographer does not have to wind it on manually.
