The Nikon FA is a single lens reflex camera. It was introduced in the 80s.
The lens of the 35mm camera can be changed. Therefore a Nikon F bayonet was used. More than 60 years ago the first lens with the Nikon F bayonet was introduced. In the course of the years the mount was revised again and again.
In the more than 60 years more than 400 different lenses were produced under the name “Nikkor”. Not all modern camera lenses can be used with the old film cameras. The 35mm photo camera does not have an autofocus. Focusing is done manually.
The Nikon FA has a light meter for taking pictures. It was designed for films with a sensitivity from ISO 12 to ISO 4000. The exposure is determined by the SLR when measured through the lens (TTL).
The exposure settings can be controlled and adjusted automatically by the 35 mm camera. Three automatic modes are available. The desired exposure time can also be determined manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.
The camera comes with a bulb mode. In this mode, the film is exposed as long as the shutter release button is pressed. A external flash can be connected via the PC flash port or Hot Shoe. In the Nikon FA is a thread for a tripod built-in. In addition, there is a connector for a cable release and a self-timer.
The camera weighs 625 grams and the dimensions are 14,2 x 9,2 x 6,4 cm. The power supply comes from two LR44 batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Nikon FA
The Nikon FA must be equipped with 35mm films. Films of this format are still easy to get today and are still being developed. A 35mm film for color pictures is the Kodak Portra 400*. A possible black and white film is the Ilford Delta 400*.
The color film is processed in the C-41 process. This development process is available at almost every photo lab.
The exposure area of the Nikon FA has a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. The film in the camera must be winded manually, as there is no automatic film transport.
The 35mm camera is no longer produced. The price of a copy depends on the condition and functionality. About 100 to 200 for a camera body must be put on the table.
