The Nikon F50 is a camera from Nikon. It is a single lens reflex camera. It is the predecessor of the Nikon F60. It was introduced in the 90s and was positioned for photography beginners. With the Nikon F50D, a model with a data back (exposure of the date taken) and a panorama mode was also sold. The camera was sold in a black and silver version.

The lens of the Nikon F50 is exchangeable. A Nikon F lens mount was installed for this purpose. The AF Zoom-Nikkor 35-80 mm f/4-f/5.6 D is mostly the go to lens for the 35mm camera. Nikon developed the F bayonet in the 1950s. Since that time it has been developed further and further. Other compatible lens manufacturers include Tokina, Tamron and Samyang. But be careful, not all modern camera lenses can be used with the old film cameras. The camera has an autofocus.

In the Nikon F50 an exposure meter is built in. It is designed for an ISO range of 6 to 6400. The film speed is determined by the DX code. As with most SLR cameras, exposure is measured trough the lens. The correct exposure is automatically set by the camera. The aperture and exposure time can be freely adjusted according to the photographers wishes.

There is a built-in flash for taking pictures in insufficient light. An external strobe or a flash unit can be connected to the Hot Shoe. The Nikon F50 has a self-timer and tripod thread.

The dimensions of the 35mm camera are 14,9 x 9,6 x 7 cm. At this size her weight is 580 grams. The power supply is provided by one 2CR5 battery (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Nikon F50

The Nikon F50 exposes cartridges with 35mm film. These films are still being produced and the development is offered by most photo labs. A 35mm film for color pictures is the Kodak Portra 400*. A possible black and white film is the Ilford XP2 Super*.

The color film is processed in the C-41 development process. This is offered by almost every photo lab.

The negatives of Nikon F50 have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. At this size, 36 images will fit on a 135-36 film. The film is automatically winded by the camera.

The camera is only available on the used market. Depending on the condition and functionality the used price varies. The value of a copy is thus between 15 and 40 euros.

Nikon N50

The model was sold in the USA under the name Nikon N50.
