Nikon F-401X

The Nikon F-401X is a single lens reflex camera. It is the successor F-401S and was introduced in the early 90s. As a target group, newcomers were targeted by the Japanese company.

The lenses of the Nikon F-401X can be changed. It features a Nikon F lens mount. Often you will find the 35mm camera with the AF Zoom-Nikkor 35-70 mm f/3.3-4.5 lens. The Nikon F bayonet was developed in the 1950s.

Over the years, the lens mount has been refined and improved by Nikon. Other makers of compatible lenses include Sigma, Tokina, Tamron and Samyang. But beware, not all modern camera lenses can be used with the old cameras Focusing is made easier by the built-in autofocus.

The camera has a built-in light meter. It is designed for films in an ISO range of 25 to 5000. The film speed is determined by the DX code. The exposure measurement is performed through the lens. The aperture and shutter speed is set automatically and cannot be changed. The aperture and shutter speed can be freely selected by the photographer.

The Bulb mode can be used for long exposures. The shutter is open for a variable time. The built-in flash can be used in low light conditions. An external flash can be connected via hot shoe. The Nikon F-401X has a built-in self-timer and a thread for a tripod.

At a weight of 650 grams the size of the Nikon F-401X is 15,4 x 10 x 6,5 cm. The camera needs four AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Nikon F-401X

Without 35mm films, the Nikon F-401X does not work. This type of film is still being produced and can be processed by most photo laboratories without any problems. A 35mm film for color pictures is the Kodak Gold 200*. A possible black and white film is the AgfaPhoto APX 100*.

The exposure area of the Nikon F-401X has a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. The film is automatically winded by the camera.

Nikon N5005

The camera was sold in the USA under the name “Nikon N5005”. It is not known why the name does not have a 4 in its name, like its predecessors.
