Nikon F-401S

The Nikon F-401S is a 35mm camera. It belongs to the group of single lens reflex cameras. It is the successor of the Nikon F-401 and the predecessor of the Nikon F-401X. New in this model was the revised autofocus module (AM200).

The lens of the Nikon F-401S is interchangeable. This is possible trough the Nikon F lens mount. The lens mount was developed by Nikon in the 1950s. Over the years, the Anschluss has been steadily improved. Lenses are sold by Nikon under the Nikkor brand. But there is also a wide range of lenses from other manufacturers. Caution is advised, however, as not all lenses can be used with all cameras. You don not have to focus manually with the 35mm camera. The Nikon F-401S comes with an autofocus.

The camera has a built-in light meter. It is designed for films in an ISO range of 25 to 5000. The film speed is read out via the DX code of the film. Exposure is determined by SLR when measured through the lens (TTL). The aperture and shutter speed can be set by the Nikon F-401S automatically. The exposure time can be set manually. The aperture is also freely selectable.

The Bulb mode can be used for long exposures. The shutter stays open as long as desired. The Nikon F-401S is equipped with a built-in flash. An external flash can be used with the 35mm camera via hot shoe. The 35mm camera comes with a thread for a tripod. A self-timer is also built in.

Films for the Nikon F-401S

What films do you need for the Nikon F-401S? It need 35mm film. 35mm films are still produced today. They can be developed in most photo laboratories. A possible film for color photography is the Kodak Portra 160*. One option for b/w images is the Ilford HP5*.

The colour film is a colour negative film and must be developed in the C-41 process. This development process is available at almost every photo lab.

The negatives of Nikon F-401S have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. A 35mm film (135-36) will therefore fit around 36 frames. The film in the camera is transported automatically.
