The Nikon AW35 is a 35mm camera. It was introduced in 1992 by the Japanese manufacturer. The camera was also sold under the name Nikon Sport-Touch.
The special feature of this compact camera is the built-in protection against splash water. According to the specification, the camera can withstand 10 liter water per minute from a distance of 30 to 50 cm for 5 minutes. The camera cannot be used under water.
The 35mm photo camera comes with a built-in fixed focal length. The focal length of the lens is 35mm. The maximum aperture is f/3.5. The photo camera is equipped with an autofocus. The closest focusing distance is 65 cm.
The Nikon AW35 has a built-in light meter. It is designed for films from ISO 100 to ISO 1000. The film speed is read out via the DX code. The exposure settings are determined automatically by the 35 mm camera.
The camera comes with a built-in flash. The flash range is indicated as 9 meters. The Nikon AW35 has a self-timer. There is also a thread for a tripod.
The camera weighs 255 grams and measures 12.8 x 7.3 x 5.5 cm. The camera requires two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*). A few batteries are sufficient for 24 rolls of film with 24 frames and use of the flash for 50 percent of the frames.
Nikon AW35 QD
Under the name “Nikon AW35 QD”, a quartz date model was offered. This model can additionally increase the recording time in images. The model differs slightly in the dimensions. 12.8 x 7.3 x 5.6 cm and 250 grams. A CR2025 battery (eBay / Amazon*) is required to operate the clock inside the camera. There was also the Nikon Sport Touch QD.
Films for the Nikon AW35
Without 35mm films, nothing works with the Nikon AW35. These films are still in production and can be quoted at almost every supplier of development work. The exposure area of the camera has a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. With a normal film (135-36) mostly 36 photos are possible. The film transport is automatic.
A nice choice for colour images of Agfaphoto Vista 400* and for B/W images of Ilford HP5*. The colour negative film is developed in the C-41 development process. This development process is offered by most laboratories.
