The Nikon AF600 is a very compact snapshot camera. The model was introduced in the 1990s by the Japanese manufacturer. In some markets, a functionally identical model was sold to photographers as Nikon Lite Touch.
The lens of the camera is fixed. The focal length is unchangeable and is 28 mm. The largest aperture available is f/3.5, but manual focusing is not necessary with the Nikon AF600. The camera has an autofocus. The closest focusing distance for this lens is 35 cm.
The 35mm camera has a built-in light meter. It has been designed for films with a sensitivity of ISO 100 to ISO 1000. The light meter determines the correct sensitivity of the film using the DX code on the film cartridge. If no code is present, ISO 100 is set. Exposure settings are automatically set by the 35mm camera. The shutter speed and aperture cannot be freely selected.
The camera comes with a built-in flash. At ISO 100 the range is 7 meters. At a size of 10.8 x 6.2 x 3.2 cm, it weighs 155 grams. A CR 123A battery (eBay / Amazon*) provides the power supply.

Additionally, Nikon also offered a Quartz Date model. This version offers the possibility of imprinting the date of recording. Of course there was also the Lite Touch QD.
films for the Nikon AF600
In the Nikon AF600, photo films are exposed, more precisely 35mm films. These are still easy to get today and are still being developed. A recommendation for colour photos is the Agfaphoto Vista 200*. If you want to stay monochrome, the Kodak T-Max 100* is not bad.
The colour film is processed in the C-41 process. This is offered by almost every photo lab. The black and white film must be processed in a proper black and white developer. Many laboratories also offer this kind of development.
The negatives of the Nikon AF600 have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. In addition, there is a panorama mode, which shifts two bars inside the image. These images have a size of 13 x 36 mm. As you can see, the content does not change. So you can also remove the corresponding parts later. In both modes 36 pictures fit on a normal film.
The film in the 35mm camera is transported automatically. The rewinding of the films is also motorized. The number of frames is shown in the LCD display.
The Nikon AF600 is no longer manufactured. The costs for the 35mm camera differ depending on accessories and condition. Because of the compactness and the quite unusual lens, the camera is still quite popular. You can pay between 80 and 140 Euros for a working copy.
