The Nikkormat FT is a single lens reflex camera. The 35mm camera was built by Nikon and was introduced in the mid 60s. It is very similar to the Nikkormat FS, but comes with a built-in light meter. Later this model was replaced by the FTN.

The lens of the Nikkormat FT is exchangeable. This is possible trough the Nikon F lens mount. In the late 1950s, the Nikon F bayonet was introduced. Later on, the upgrade to use an autofocus followed.

Other manufacturers, besides Nikon, of compatible lenses include Tokina, Tamron, Sigma and Samyang. It must be considered, however, that not all modern camera lenses can be used with the old film cameras. The Nikkormat FT has no autofocus. It is manually focused.

The Nikkormat FT has a built-in light meter. The correct exposure is measured through the lens of the SLR camera. The desired exposure time can be determined manually. The aperture is also individually selectable. The measurement result is indicated by a needle with plus and minus in the viewfinder. There is no direct transmission of the results to the camera.

The Bulb mode can be used for long exposures. In this mode, the shutter will open as long as the shutter release button is pressed. An external flash unit can be connected to the PC flash socket. The Nikkormat FT has a thread for a tripod and cable release. It also has a self-timer.

Films for the Nikkormat FT

Photographic films are required for the Nikkormat FT. Films for the 35mm format are used. For this film format, there is still a good selection of material for color and black and white images. Beautiful 35mm films for color or black-and-white images are the Fujifilm Superia 400* and the Kodak T-Max 100*.

The color film is processed in the C-41 process. The C-41 process is offered by almost all photo labs.

The negatives of Nikkormat FT have a size of 24 mm x 36 mm. The film in the camera must be winded manually by the photographer.
