Lomography Petzval Linse

Petzval Portrait Lens for DSLRs and 35mm SLR Cameras by Lomography

Photos like in the 19th century, that's what the Petzval lens from Lomography aims to deliver.

Lomography has introduced something again today, this time it's a lens. But not a normal one, but a replica of a lens from 1840.

Lomography Petzval - Neu und Alt

The maximum aperture of the lens is f/2.2. Images with the Petzval are said to have high contrast and very good color saturation.

There is no autofocus or other electronics in this lens. Changing the aperture is also a bit different from what we know today.

The Petzval is equipped with a Waterhouse aperture system. In short, you insert a plate with an aperture (f/16, f/11, f/8, f/5.6, f/4, or f/2.2) into the Petzval to select the aperture.

The focal length of the lens is 85 mm and the minimum focusing distance is one meter. Filters can be attached to the 67 mm thread. The weight is given by Lomography as 500 grams. These data refer to the first test samples. The lens is built in the Zenit factory in Krasnogorsk, Russia.

The results with the lens already look quite interesting. For around 266 or 500 euros, you should have a real use for it or really love the results.
