Lomography Neptune Convertible Art Lens System, this crisp short name describes a new product from Lomography.
The system consists of a base plate that connects to the camera and houses the aperture settings, among other things. There are various attachments with different focal lengths, currently 35 mm, 50 mm, and 85 mm. The maximum aperture depends on the attachment. Additionally, there are aperture inserts to achieve special bokeh effects.
The lens system is available for various mounts: Nikon F, Canon EF, and Pentax K. The lenses can be used on both digital and analog cameras. Like most art lenses from Lomography, they are aimed more at digital photographers.
The system is inspired by a similar lens system developed by Charles Chevalier in the 19th century.
The Lomography Neptune Convertible Art Lens System is, as known from the Viennese company, initially funded via Kickstarter. So far, $500,000 has been raised from over 800 backers. The actual goal was $100,000 and was reached in no time. The Neptune Lens System will also be sold regularly in the future. The retail price is expected to be around $1,000.
The lens system is expected to be available from November 2017.
