The Hema Super SR 400 color negative film (Kleurenfilm) was once part of the assortment of a Dutch retail chain, offered under its own brand. However, the film was produced by another company. Hema offered this film until the early 2000s. In addition to the ISO 400 film, there was also an ISO 200 variant.
The Hema Super SR 400 enables the creation of classic color photographs. Its recommended ISO is 400, which makes it suitable for numerous shooting situations. The film was designed mainly for amateur photographers and not for professionals.
Development of the film
Even a Hema Super SR 400 still found today can still be used. After full exposure, it is important to develop the film without exposing it to light to prevent loss of the images.
Unlike black and white film development, the C-41 development process is standardized and follows a predetermined procedure.
In Germany, one can submit the Hema Super SR 400 for development at major drugstore chains. After processing, one receives the film strips with the photographed images.
Scans, prints or prints can be made from the finished negatives. Many developing laboratories also offer the production of prints as an additional service.
Digitization
Another option is to digitize the negatives using a scanner. This service is offered by many photo labs, but a home scanner can also be used. The digitized images can then be shared on various platforms or printed in various formats.
Film formats of the Hema Super SR 400
The Hema Super SR 400 was only offered in 35mm format. One roll of this color film allows 36 exposures.
The film cassette is DX encoded and can therefore be used in modern cameras. There is a wide range of compatible 35mm format models from various manufacturers such as Olympus, Rollei and Fujifilm.
As an inexpensive alternative, the Kodak Ultramax 400* is available, which enables equally reliable color recordings and is available in 35mm format.
