Fujifilm Provia 400X

Once a prominent member of Fujifilm’s product line, the Fujifilm Provia 400X is often praised in photographic circles as an excellent slide film. As the successor to the Provia 400F, it had achieved a certain notoriety in the photographic community before being discontinued in 2013. The film was available in formats for 35mm and medium format cameras, offering greater flexibility in analogue photography.

The range of applications for this slide film is quite extensive. From landscape to portrait photography, it proves to be a versatile tool for photographers who value high image quality. It can also be used in situational photography where high sensitivity is desired along with fine grain. In particular, it shows its strength in difficult lighting conditions or when fast shutter speeds are required, as it can be pushed, with possible sensitivities between El 280 and El 3200. The “pushing” and “pulling” allows photographers greater control over shutter speeds and aperture values.

The Provia 400X offers remarkable colour saturation made possible by special MCCL (Multi-Color Correction Layer) technology. This results in colour reproduction comparable to ISO 100 film, a remarkable feature for a 400 ISO film. This feature makes it possible to produce richer, more vibrant images while maintaining a more natural look.

The Provia 400X requires the use of the E6 process, a specialised process for slide film. It is important to note that although the film is no longer in production, it is still prized by some photography enthusiasts and professionals who have a preference for the aesthetics of film photographs.
