The Fujifilm Fujinon XF 35mm f/2 R WR is a popular lens for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, which is characterized by its compact design, high image quality and fast autofocus. It is manufactured in Japan and the Philippines. The fast and quiet autofocus, based on an internal focus system and a stepper motor, focuses in just 0.08 seconds, allowing you to capture fleeting moments.
Another plus point of the XF 35mm f/2 R WR is its robust construction. With seals in 8 places, it is protected against dust and splash water and can even be used at temperatures down to -10°C. Despite this resistance, the lens remains extremely compact and light, weighing just 170 grams and measuring 45.9mm in length.
A light, circular lens hood is included in the scope of delivery. The higher-quality metal lens hood LH-XF35-2 is available as an option. The lens cover can still be used with both lens hoods. The filter diameter is 43mm, which allows the use of common filters such as UV, ND or polarizing filters.
Alternatives
The cheaper alternative: If you are looking for a similar lens at a cheaper price, you could consider the Fujinon XC 35mm f/2. This lens does not have the weather sealing or metal and does not have an aperture ring. However, its optical construction is similar to the XF 35mm f/2 R WR. It is an excellent option for beginners and budget-conscious photographers looking for a compact 35mm prime lens.
Alternatives from Fujifilm and other manufacturers
In addition to the XC 35mm f/2, Fujifilm also offers other lenses with a similar focal length, such as the XF 35mm f/1.4 R, which offers an even larger maximum aperture for an even more pronounced bokeh. There is also the 33 mm f/1.4. However, both lenses are significantly larger and also more expensive.
Other manufacturers such as Sigma, Viltrox and 7Artisans also offer 35mm lenses for the Fujifilm X-Mount system, some of which are significantly cheaper than the Fujifilm lenses, but may mean compromises in terms of autofocus performance, image quality or feel.
