The Washi V is a black and white film. It is handmade by Washi.

The special feature of this film, as with the original Washi W, is that paper is used as the film carrier. More precisely, the panchromatic emulsion is poured onto Gampi Paier. This is also handmade in Japan (Awagami Factory). It is characterized by a higher transparency and has a weight of 41 grams per square meter. The spectral sensitivity of the film reaches up to 640 nm and, according to the manufacturer, it can be used for all classic image motifs.

The manufacturer specifies the sensitivity as ISO 100. The film can be pushed to ISO 400, pull development is possible up to ISO 25.

Development of the film

There is no standardized development process, as there is for C-41 films. The V can be processed in different black and white developers. Full control over the development process, which is not standardized and therefore the results differ depending on the developer when developing the film yourself. It is important to note that the film loses its stability during development, therefore it cannot be developed in the usual developing cans. The easiest way is to process it in a bowl, but for this, complete darkness is necessary. The developed film strips can then be scanned.

Formats

The b/w film is available as medium format and 35mm film. Other formats can be produced on request.

The 35mm film comes in a cartridge without DX-coding and is sufficient for 16 shots.

Due to the thin paper the film can tear quickly, so you should advance it very carefully and not further than 16 exposures. It should not be used in cameras with automatic film transport. Similarly, it should not be used in a camera that uses the perforation to advance the film. It is especially not recommended for the Canon ML, Edixa-Mat Reflex, Nikon F80, Voigtländer Vito CSR, Zenit E, Zorki 10 and Zorki 4K.
