The Cyberpunk 640T is a color negative film that is available under the brand "Cyberpunk". Behind this label is probably a supplier from China that sells the film material online. The film is manufactured by Kodak.

Essentially, this film is the Kodak VISION3 500T, a film specially developed for cinema film production that is normally only available on large spools. The VISION3 500T is optimized for artificial light (tungsten). In contrast to digital cameras, where the white balance can be adjusted, analog cameras require suitable film material to produce true-to-life colors under artificial light.

The Cyberpunk 640T can also be used in daylight, but this often leads to color deviations. These can be corrected with an appropriate filter, but the filter reduces the light sensitivity of the film.

Development of the Cyberpunk 640T

The Kodak VISION3 500T is usually developed using the ECN-2 process, which incorporates a special coating called the Remjet layer. This layer protects the film in cinema cameras, but must be removed during development. If the film is instead developed using the usual C-41 process, this can contaminate the chemicals.

In the Cyberpunk 640T, the Remjet coating has already been removed, so the film can be easily developed using the C-41 process. This process is supported by most photo labs, making the film much easier to use.

Formats and camera compatibility

The Cyberpunk 640T is suitable for conventional 35mm cameras. The cartridge has a DX coding that is recognized by many camera models. Whether Minolta, Olympus, Nikon or Leica - any camera that supports the 35mm format can use the Cyberpunk 640T.

Cyberpunk sells the VISION3 500T under different names, each with different DX coding, but the film material itself remains the same. If the Cyberpunk 640T is not available, other suppliers offer similar products based on Kodak film.
