The Cinestill 800 Tungsten is a color negative film. The artificial light film from Cinestill was introduced in 2013.

It contains Kodak’s Vision 3 5219, which is actually intended for the production of cinema films. Because it has a special coating, it must be developed in the special ECN-2 process and cannot be developed in the normal C-41 color negative process, where the coating does not come off.

Cinestill has now developed a process to remove it, allowing easy development in C-41. The film is then packaged in Germany by Adox.

But now let’s take a look at the film itself. The Kodak Vision 3 5219 or Cinestill 800 Tungsten is intended for shooting under tungsten light. Under tungsten light, you get very warm, orange-red images with daylight film. With Cinestill film, on the other hand, you get neutral images under tungsten light, which is especially important for skin tones.

Another special feature is the high sensitivity and the wide exposure latitude. It can be exposed between ISO 100 and ISO 3200. The best results are achieved in a range between ISO 400 and ISO 800 with normal development. Above ISO 1600 it should be pushed.

If you want to use the Cinestill 800 Tungsten under daylight, you should screw a filter in front of your camera to get accurate results.

The Cinestill 800 Tungsten is currently only available as 35mm film and for medium format cameras.
