The snapshot camera Chinon Auto GX was produced by the Chinon company as a 35mm camera.
This camera model features a non-interchangeable lens. The focal length of the lens is 35 mm and it consists of 3 elements in 3 groups. The maximum aperture is f/4.5. It is not possible to change the focus settings on this camera. Manual focusing on the subject is therefore not feasible. The minimum focusing distance for this lens is 1.3 m.
A CdS exposure meter is integrated into the 35mm camera to determine exposure settings. An ISO sensitivity of 100/200 and 400/1000 is supported by the exposure meter.
The exposure settings, with a shutter speed of 1/125 sec., are automatically determined by the camera’s electronics. For the aperture, the electronics can choose between f/4.5, f/8, and f/16.
The camera features a built-in flash. The flash range is specified as 1.6 – 3.1 meters at ISO 100. The charging time is approximately 5 seconds.
According to the user manual, the dimensions of the Chinon Auto GX are 129 x 70 x 45 mm. It weighs 250 grams. The power supply is provided by two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*).
Films for the Chinon Auto GX
The Chinon Auto GX is designed for the 35mm format according to the user manual. The 35mm format is one of the most widespread film formats, and for this reason, there are still some manufacturers producing for this format.
Among the most popular 35mm films for black and white photography is the Ilford XP2 Super*. If you need a color film for your camera, the Kodak Ultramax 400* could be an option.
The color film is developed using the C-41 process. C-41 films are offered by most photo labs. In many drugstores, it is possible to have color films developed.
The Chinon Auto GX exposes an area of 24 mm x 36 mm. The film is automatically loaded, advanced, and rewound by motor.
Date Model
In addition to the standard model, there is also a Date-Back variant. The Chinon Auto GX Date comes with the option of imprinting the shot date.
