Apparate & Kamerabau GmbH (AkA, not AKIS) was a camera manufacturer from Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance. After 1957, the company was called "akw". The company was founded after World War II by the two brothers Eugene and Max Armbruster.
They started with the Akarette, a viewfinder camera for the 35mm format with interchangeable lenses. Later, the Akarex, a rangefinder camera, followed. With the AkA Akarex, the lenses could also be exchanged. Interesting at that time was the concept that not only the lens barrel but also the viewfinder area was exchanged.
In 1960, the German camera manufacturer ceased production.
