The Polaroid SLR 680 is an instant camera. It is designed for Polaroid's 600 format. It was introduced in 1982 by the American company.

What makes it special and distinguishes it from the other Polaroid 600 models is that it is a reflex camera. This means that when you look through the viewfinder, you look directly through the lens, and not through a small window next to the lens like most other 600 cameras.

The design of the instant camera is very similar to the Polaroid SX-70 autofocus models, and it also folds up after use. However, there is still a flash section above the autofocus module. The dominant color of the SLR 680's design is black.

The Polaroid SLR 680 is equipped with a glass lens. It has a focal length of 116 mm and consists of four elements. Since it is a fixed focal length zooming is not possible, except of course with the feet. For this, there is an autofocus that focuses when the shutter button is pressed lightly. There is also the possibility to focus manually.

The instant camera takes the selection of exposure time and aperture (f/8 to f/22) from the photographer. However, one can influence the exposure somewhat with the light/dark control on the front of the camera.

For shots in unfavorable light situations, the Polaroid SLR 680 has a built-in flash. This can be switched on if desired and adjusts to the set distance. Powered the camera and flash by the battery in the film cassette, so with the purchase of a film you also get a new battery.

Films for the instant camera

The Polaroid SLR 680 is designed for the 600 format developed by Polaroid. Unfortunately, Polaroid has stopped producing 600 film.

In the meantime, however, there are replacements from The Impossible Project. The films are again marketed under the old brand name and logo. To take color pictures with the Polaroid SLR 680 you can reach for the Polaroid Color Film for 600*. For monochrome pictures, the Polaroid B&W Film for 600* is the best choice.

A connection for a cable release and a thread for a normal tripod are available. Its camera strap can also be attached.

Polaroid SLR 680 SE

The Polaroid SLR 680 SE is a Special Edition (=SE) of the SLR 680, differing only slightly in appearance from the "original" and having the same range of functions. The instant camera also requires the same films.
