Olympus Supertrip

  • Type Snapshot camera
  • Type of Film 35mm
  • Focal Length 35 mm
  • Max Aperture f/4
  • Focus Fixed focus

The Olympus Supertrip is a classic snapshot camera with a fixed 35mm f/4 Zuiko lens, which consists of three glass lens elements and is valued for its quality.

This 35mm camera does not allow lens changes and offers fixed focus settings with a focus range of 1 meter to infinity.

The aperture is automatically selected based on the set ISO value, which can be set to 100, 200 or 400 ISO using a slider on the side of the lens.

The camera adjusts the aperture accordingly, but does not have a built-in light meter, which means that there is no real exposure measurement. Instead, there is an LED warning light in low light conditions.

Interestingly, the Olympus Supertrip does not require batteries for basic functions, but if you want to use the built-in flash and low light warning light, 2x AAA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are required.

The flash can be activated with another slider under the lens, which offers three settings: no flash, flash for close objects and flash for distant objects.

Films for the Olympus Supertrip

The camera uses 35mm film and supports manual loading. After inserting the film, it must be pulled onto the take-up spool, the back closed and the film advanced to the first exposure. The Olympus Supertrip exposes an area of 24mm x 36mm on the film. After all shots have been taken, the film must be rewound by pressing a button on the bottom of the camera.

An integrated thread on the bottom allows the use of a tripod, ideal for group shots or long exposures. 35mm films such as the Kodak Gold 200* for color images or the Ilford Delta 100* for black and white images can be used, with the color film after the C- 41 procedure needs to be developed.

It is worth noting that these days the Olympus Supertrip can only be purchased used, although the value of such an example depends primarily on its condition and functionality. With its easy operation and distinctive design, the Olympus Supertrip offers a nostalgic experience for analog photography lovers.
