Minolta SR-T MC

The Minolta SR-T MC is an SLR camera from the Japanese manufacturer. It was built by Minolta from 1973 to 1975. It belongs to a group of models that were produced by Minolta especially for American department store chains.

The SR-T MC is a hybrid of the SR-T 100 and the SR-T 101, and was sold exclusively at J. C. Penney and K-Mart. An almost identical model was sold as the SR-T SC at Sears. It was later followed by a successor model, the Minolta SRT MC-II.

The lens of the camera is interchangeable. For this, a Minolta SR bayonet was built into the camera. The Minolta MC Rokkor-X 50mm f/1.4 is often found with the 35mm camera. It was also sold together with a MC Rokkor-X 50mm f/2. There is no autofocus system, but the focus has to be adjusted manually.

There is a built-in light meter in the camera. It was designed for films with sensitivity from ISO 6 to ISO 6400. The metering of the exposure takes place through the lens in the 35 mm camera (TTL). The aperture and exposure time can be freely set by the photographer. There is no automatic exposure control. The shutter speed can be set from 1/1000 second to one second. There is also a bulb mode for long exposures.

The Minolta SR-T MC can be mounted on a tripod. An external flash can be connected to the hot shoe or PC flash port. The flash sync speed is 1/60 second. There is no self-timer.

With a size of 14.6 x 9.5 x 4.7 cm, the Minolta SR-T MC weighs 670 grams. The housing is black. Power is supplied by a PX625 battery (eBay / Amazon*).

Films for the Minolta SR-T MC

According to the manual, the Minolta SR-T MC uses 35mm film. 35mm films are still made today and are fairly easy to get. The film transport is done mechanically with a lever. The return transport back into the cartridge is also done by hand.

Usable photographic films for the Japanese SLR that can still be purchased today are the Kodak Portra 160* for color images and the Ilford HP5* for black and white images. Both films are well suited for everyday use and perform well according to test reports. One roll of film usually holds 36 images. You can either make prints from the negatives or you can digitize them with a scanner.
