The Minolta AF-101R is a simple 35mm camera. The camera was produced in a factory in China. The feature set of the model is rather limited and it is certainly not a top model. The body is made of plastic. It was sold in black and silver. Additionally, there was a variant with a data back for imprinting the date of shooting.

The camera comes with a fixed focal length lens. The focal length is unchangeable and is 28 mm. The largest available aperture is f/5.6. The focus of the lens is fixed. The minimum distance to the subject must be 120 cm. Although the name says "AF" (= autofocus), this can be rather doubted.

The shutter speed is also fixed and there is no way to change it. The camera takes all pictures with 1/125 second. The light meter can read the film speed via the DX code. There is no manual setting option.

The built-in flash provides enough light. The flash can be changed in three settings. Automatically when needed or that it fires with every picture. It can also be turned off completely. Two 2x AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are needed to power the camera.

Films for the Minolta AF-101R

What film do you use with the Minolta AF-101R? The camera exposes 35mm film. The film transport is automatic and is performed by a motor. When the end of the roll is reached, the motor automatically rewinds the film stock into the film cartridge. Only when the motor has finished its work may the back be opened and the film be taken for development.

35mm films are still produced by various manufacturers and can still be easily purchased and developed. Possible films for the Minolta AF-101R are the Kodak Ultramax 400* and the Ilford HP5*. Smaller manufacturers, such as Fujifilm, Rollei, Adox or Foma, also offer films for this format.
