Fujica Flash AF Date

  • Manufacturer Fuji
  • Type Viewfinder camera
  • Type of Film 35mm
  • Focal Length 38 mm
  • Max Aperture f/2.8
  • Focus Automatic

The company Fuji developed and manufactured the Fujica Flash AF Date viewfinder camera for the 35mm format. This model is the successor to the Fujica Flash AF. The biggest change was the addition of the ability to imprint the date of the recording.

The camera has an integrated lens with a fixed, unchangeable focal length. This is designated "Fujinon 1:2.8 f=38mm". With its focal length of 38 mm, the lens offers a maximum aperture of f/2.8. An integrated autofocus system ensures sharp focusing. To ensure sharp images, a minimum distance of 90 cm to the subject should be maintained, which corresponds to the close-focusing limit of the camera.

Integrated measuring cells enable the camera electronics to determine the appropriate exposure. The light meter is designed for use with films with a sensitivity of ISO 25 to 400. The aperture and shutter speed are controlled fully automatically by the camera technology; manual adjustment by the user is not provided.

In addition, the camera model has a built-in flash. Two existing accessory threads on the 35mm camera also allow the connection of a tripod and a cable release.

Two AA batteries (eBay / Amazon*) are required for the power supply.

Film for the Fujica Flash AF Date

The Fujica Flash AF Date was designed for the 35mm format and exposes corresponding films. 35mm films are still readily available and their development is easily carried out by most photo labs. For color photographs, for example, the Kodak Portra 400* is suitable. If black and white images are to be created, the Kodak TRI-X 400* is a possible choice.

The development of color films takes place in the standardized C-41 process, a service offered by almost every photo lab.

The camera exposes negatives in the classic format of 24 mm x 36 mm. Since a motor drive is missing, the film must be manually advanced to the next frame by the photographer after each shot.

Nowadays, this 35mm camera can only be found on the used market. The price depends on the condition and the scope of the accessories. An average price for a used model is currently 69,65 €.
