The Instax format is a category of instant film formats from Fujifilm. It now includes three formats, Instax Mini, Instax Wide and Instax Square. The Mini and Wide formats were introduced in the late 1990s. The Square format was only added towards the end of the 2010s.
As you can infer from the name, the formats differ in size. The Wide Format is the largest format and the Instax Mini Format is the smallest. In the Instax Square format, the pictures are square, as known from the classic Polaroid pictures.
The films are very uncomplicated to use and are therefore well suited for beginners. In addition, they are very flexible to use and therefore a good choice for weddings, parties or vacations.
Fujifilm is the only manufacturer for the three instant formats. There is one color and one black and white film for each of the three formats. In addition to the normal films with white borders, there are also some editions with differently printed frames.
The films can of course be used in all Fujifilm cameras for the respective format. There are also cameras from Lomography. You cannot use the instant films in the old Polaroid cameras. Besides the size, this is due to the way the films work.
The Instax Wide film can be used in Instax 100, Instax 200, Instax 210, 500AF, Lomo’Instant Wide and Fujifilm Instax Wide 300, among others.
