Pentacon was a camera manufacturer in Dresden.
In 1959, the merger of several camera manufacturers resulted in the nationally owned company Kamera- und Kinowerke Dresden. Five years later the name was changed to VEB Pentacon Dresden.
The most famous Pentacon cameras were the Praktica series and also the medium format camera Pentacon Six. Part of the production was also exported abroad. In West Germany, many models of the Praktica series were available under the Porst brand, among others. Some time after the collapse of the GDR, production was stopped.
